My path

Specialist in Orthopedics, Traumatology and Shoulder Surgery

Dr. Gabriele Vasario

I am a specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology with a particular focus on shoulder surgery.

An orthopedist is a medical specialist who treats problems involving bones, tendons, cartilage, and joints. He or she specifically deals not only with medical treatment but also with surgical treatment of diseases affecting these parts of the body.

My training took place in Italy and at major international institutions, consolidating a highly specialized expertise in the treatment of shoulder pathologies.

My Path

My professional career includes experience at orthopedic surgery centers in Europe and Italy. Specializing in arthroscopic procedures for the treatment of shoulder problems, I focus on the treatment of joint instabilities, rotator cuff disorders, and proximal humeral fractures and prosthetics, primarily through minimally invasive or arthroscopic procedures and state-of-the-art prosthetics.

Specialization in Orthopedics

I enrolled in Turin's medical school in the class of '96 and spent a year and a half in France, where I fell in love with the orthopedic branch of medicine. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Turin in 2003, I expanded my experience at centers of excellence such as the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Parma, the James Paget Hospital in England, and the Microsurgery Division of the CTO in Turin.

Specialization and

Fellowship

Shoulder Surgery

While completing my orthopedic residency in Turin, I had the opportunity to spend a few months in France at the University Hospital of Nice. There, I had the privilege of working with Professor Pascal Boileau, a leading international expert in shoulder surgery. Thanks to him, I developed a passion for this discipline and later decided to continue with a year-long international fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Chirurgie Orthopédique-Traumatologie du Sport service.

A very intense year, with operating room procedures, visits, and projects at scientific conferences: the excellence of quality in shoulder surgery. Scientific and surgical rigor has always been emphasized, combined with a great passion for the work done. A mindset that is difficult to find elsewhere.

This experience profoundly changed my life and career path, both professionally and personally. I worked side by side with international colleagues and with Pascal, who, despite appearing strict and difficult to those who know him superficially, taught me a great deal about both orthopedics and humanity.

University Master's Degree

in Bologna and Cattolica

Upon returning to Italy, I worked for two years at the San Giovanni Bosco Hospital in Turin. Meanwhile, I continued my specialization in shoulder surgery at the University of Bologna and the Shoulder Surgery Center at the Cattolica Hospital, directed by Professor Porcellini.

In collaboration with their team, I completed a two-year clinical and surgical program. This experience led me to earn a Master's Degree in Biomechanics, Pathology, and Therapeutic Treatment of the Upper Limb from the University of Bologna.

AOU City of Health and Science of Turin

CTO Hospital

After moving to the Orthopedic Trauma Center in Turin, I initially focused on upper limb trauma and shoulder fractures.

The CTO in Turin is one of Italy's largest trauma centers and a referral center for the entire Piedmont, Liguria, and Aosta Valley regions. These were difficult and tiring years, but I gained a wealth of experience in trauma, having focused primarily on elective pathologies in previous years.

Subsequently, I began working in the Shoulder Surgery Unit of the First University Hospital, directed by Professor Massè. I still work there today, performing surgeries and conducting research in both shoulder traumatology and elective rotator cuff surgery, instability, regenerative medicine, and advanced prosthetics. It's a stimulating environment, with close ties to the university and the residents of the School of Orthopedics. However, it's also challenging due to the complexity of the cases, which come from many other hospitals in the region.

Today it is essential to specialize in a specific area to ensure high-quality patient care.

Let's meet in person

I'm a lucky person. Even before calling myself a surgeon, I'm a father to Edoardo and a husband to Francesca, and I love spending my free time with them.

And when I can find some spare time, I indulge in sports, which I've always practiced. A former competitive swimmer, I now divide my time between road cycling and golf, and, less often than I'd like, skiing and swimming.
